GREELEY, CO (June 9, 2025) – The American Red Cross of Northern Colorado in partnership with the Greeley Fire Department offered free smoke alarm installations for residents of the Friendly Village, The Shire and Greeley Mobile Estates neighborhoods during a Sound the Alarm home fire safety event held last Saturday, June 7.
Our dedicated volunteers and partners installed nearly 200 smoke alarms, making at least 70 households safer.
“We are grateful to the Greeley Fire Department for its support to install free smoke alarms to help keep our neighborhoods safe from home fires,” said Melissa Venable, Executive Director, Red Cross of Northern Colorado. “Every second counts when there’s a home fire and the sooner an alarm alerts you to a fire, the sooner you can get to a safer place. These efforts will make a lasting difference to help save lives and protect those who are most vulnerable.”
This effort is part of a national Sound the Alarm initiative to install free smoke alarms and help families create fire escape plans annually in neighborhoods and communities across the U.S. Local Sound the Alarm events like this one are a critical part of the national Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, which has helped save at least 2,393 lives as of May 31, 2025 since launching in October 2014.
